Councillors Endorse Plans for Collieston’s New Community Centre
Plans by CASCT for a new community centre have taken a major step forward towards becoming a reality. On 21st March, at a meeting of the Formartine Area Committee, Aberdeenshire Councillors voted in favour of a recommendation by Council officials that ownership of the existing village hall and schoolhouse be transferred to CASCT with certain conditions.
CASCT’s Chairman, Steve Rainey, commented,
“Clearly, after eight years of us working towards this goal, we are thrilled that our Council has recognised the value that we place in putting a new heart into our community. We thank them for their generosity and their trust in our ability to take the project to its conclusion.
“We do, however, still have a long way to go, but we have passed a very important milestone on our journey. Knowing that we have ownership of our existing building and site enables us to press ahead with an architectural competition to select the design for the centre. Our goal is to be laying foundations in the Spring of 2008 and to be welcoming in 2009 with a Ceilidh in our new hall.”
