Collieston and Slains Get Down to Business!

Glen Fendley of CADISPA leads workshop

On Saturday 18th March Collieston and Slains Community Trust (CASCT) hosted a workshop to challenge and further develop our draft Business Plan. A robust plan is required to stand up to intense professional scrutiny from funders.

The workshop was facilitated by Sarah Menzies and Glen Fendley of CADISPA (Strathclyde University’s consultancy in Conservation & Development in Sparsely Populated Areas). It was attended by some 40 participants including members of CASCT’s committee, Collieston Amenities Committee, local organisations and invited experts from social services, catering companies and the arts.

Project Co-ordinator, Alan White commented,

“Our aim is for the new community centre to become not only the heart of our community but also the hub of a thriving social enterprise that is able to fund itself and other local organisations and community needs.  Our business plan needed a serious reality check. We wanted to hear from real potential customers, user groups and individuals. The workshop gave us that opportunity.”

Glen Fendley summed up the day,

“I visit many community groups but I was astonished at the sheer energy and enthusiasm of everyone who attended this workshop. There are many large businesses that could learn from how CASCT went about achieving what they did today – I have every reason to believe that they will reach their goal.”
