Collieston Amenities Committee Activites and Events

The Committee’s raison d’être is to keep Collieston’s heart beating.

Working with the community, through administrative tasks and hands-on physical endeavour, the Committee helps to maintain Collieston’s atmosphere as a special place to live.

Annual organised events include the Gala, Burns’ Supper, Senior Citizens’ party, Bonfire Night, Christmas tree-lighting and carol and social nights.

The Committee actively pursues grants. Last year a Tidy Village Grant which covered grass-cutting expenses was successfully obtained as was an Environment Grant which funded flower tubs and compost.

Administration includes obtaining licences, welfare activities and fundraising as well as buying and maintaining village equipment.

From time to time, the Committee organises beach cleans and work parties which help to keep the village looking its best. Again it relies on the much-appreciated labour of volunteers.

Last year, the Committee entered the village in the small community category of the Formartine in Bloom competition in which it was judged winner. Committee member Margaret Swan was presented with a certificate and prize at an award ceremony at Pitmedden Gardens.

The Committee also successfully nominated John Robertson for an award by the Provost of Aberdeenshire for his years of long service to the community. John received his certificate from Aberdeenshire’s Provost Councillor Raymond Bisset at a ceremony at the Council’s HQ.
