Collieston Amenities Committee Gala |
Collieston had its first Gala in 1958. Now, as then, it is the village’s main fundraising and social event. Proceedings normally run over a few days ending on Gala Day itself - a Saturday in late July or early August.
The week includes a number of traditional events such as a fiercely contested skittle tournament, children’s fancy dress parade and quiz nights - to name but a few. There are always surprises each year - 2005 being no exception with a scarecrow competition attracting entries from all around the village and beyond. Themes from previous years have included a Wild West Night, Medieval Banquet, Robbie William’s tribute band and a Taste of Italy.
In 2005 the Gala made a profit of over £6000 all of which will be used to benefit the village and surrounding area.
